Mood Scent 4: Al Fresco Party Perfumes

OOOOHHHHH! Mood Scent 4 week! YAY! This month we sniff some Al Fresco Party Perfumes. Most of our readers being Northern Hemisphere have had a seriously warm summer so I am really excited to read what you have all been wearing for outdoor adventures, beaching, meals, BarBQs, rooftop parties and secret rendezvous. Here in Australia the cold is has been abating over the last month and we’ll be heading into the jaws of spring/summer again from now. YAY! Already we are seeing some days at 25C (77F) and over in the warmest parts of the day. As soon as Lock Down is over here in Sydney I’ll be getting my Al Fresco Party spritzing on like crazy!

Mood Scent 4: Al Fresco Party Perfumes

Al Fresco Party Perfumes is a really easy scenario for me. I often have to think of wearing fragrance outdoors, among people, in the heat and trying to stay fragrantly stylish without bombing the general area.
Also, good to be reminded not to apply your fragrance and then show your skin to direct sunlight immediately. The perfume oils create light prisms and you can burn in sprayed regions super fast. I always give it an hour between spritzing and disrobing, unless swimming which washes a lot of it off anyway.

Bloom Acqua di Fiori by Gucci

It’s no secret that I love the resurgence of aquatic fragrance. Gucci has been particularly smart and released one with a girl-centric vibe. Mostly they are aimed directly at the bro crew, so props to Gucci for being inclusive in their exclusiveness. Here they have produced a white floral with slightly briny, citrus forward, aquatic attitude. A breezy, fun, happy go lucky scent that is by far my favourite of the Bloom range.

Boy by CHANEL

Powdery and slightly sweet lavender, citrus, vanilla and some random greenness. This is my regular daytime go-to in comfortable climates. Never overbearing but always en pointe. Considering how sheer and weightless Boy is you’ll be surprised by its longevity. Long after I’ve become nose blind people ask me what fragrance I’m wearing. Though the word has lost almost all good meaning I think it’s classy and understated. Lunch on the boat, opera in the park, watching to footy or wandering markets with friends. Boy is a perfect companion.

L’Eau Bleue d’Issey pour Homme by Issey Miyake

L’Eau d’Issey changed the way we thought about fragrance. Over the years they have released a humungous array of flankers that are all pretty much the same with an introduction, increase or lowering of accords. If one of them ever wiorked for you then the flankers probably will too. In my collection I keep the original, Nuit and this one. Available for next to nothing at the discounters and offering a beautiful, citrus/woods/aquatic ride that works for every sunny day and sweaty night.

L’esprit libre by Divine

Want to smell like a resort town breeze at the end of the season? Suddenly the crowds disappear, the tourist businesses close down and it’s just the last stragglers and some local businesses. The sun shines a little cool, the crush of humanity is gone and you can finally enjoy the beauty of the town. L’esprit libre is about as close to the scent as i could imagine. A whisper of fragrance that reflects the beauty of a clean breeze sent from the seas. An aquatic iris and citrus fragrance, very more-ish.

Love Mimosa by Amouage

The beautiful, waxy sheerness of mimosa with a lovely powdery aside. A dewy fragrance that reminds us of the late winter mornings that mimosa, or as Australians call it wattle, flowers in. I’m always surprised when looking at the note list that honey isn’t a noted accord. I love the way that Amouage manages to make an aquatic floral slightly feral here, like an undercurrent of animal. Love Mimosa is not a huge scent but it is noticeable, so different to many of the other popular scents being worn currently. This smells like a humble brag of good living and good fortune. Wearable anytime, it will fit the fun party mood of the great outdoors.

Pichola by Neela Vermeire Creations

Pichola was named by Neela from the Udaipur Lake Pichola, in Rajasthan, India. You may know of this lake because the famous white Lake Palace is in the centre of it and pictures of it are often shown in any documentary or travel show of must do & see things in India. I’ve been fortunate enough to satay there three times in my life, every time the lake was full and sparkling. Pichola the fragrance is not aquatic but a shimmering, spicy white floral with the creaminess of ylang and sandalwood. A modern, lightweight and glittering relative of the original Guerlain Samsara. Perfect for those al fresco events that need a little dressing up.
