While you are all sweltering in heatwaves up north I thought we could chat about a new to me fragrance in my collection. Someone at Gucci has remembered how to make wonderful fragrances again. It’s really exciting and fun for me to find new Gucci fragrances to try and love. The Absolute range is killer and so too is the Gucci Bloom range.
Gucci Bloom Acqua di Fiori 2018

Top: Galbanum, Blackcurrant bud
Heart: Jasmine, Rangoon creeper, Tuberose
Base: Musk, Sandalwood
A leafy green fruity floral aquatic. HA! Sounds particularly vile, doesn’t it? WRONG! It’s freaking wonderful. An aquatic wash that gives a salty seaside vibe without it feeling like the regular cucumber water that so many perfumistas find horribly reminiscent of the 1990s. Here it’s all poured over white flowers with a lovely tart yet unscreechy blackcurrant. Refreshing without resorting to most of the old fashioned tropes.
Gucci Bloom Acqua di Fiori is the late, hazy days of summertime captured in a bottle. In feeling it’s analogous to hanging out on a Sunday afternoon with a white wine spritzer and joining the kids running through sprinklers to cool off.
I really like the way that green is used, it’s an interesting, slightly off kilter leafiness with a hint of unripe fruit. The closest I can think in terms of feeling was that Annick Goutal scent Mandragore. Here we smell a similar ivy-like green cutting across everything else. The Gucci does it with a really lived-in set of musks and breathy white flowers which feels very tropical hotel gardens in the moonlight.
A casual, wearable white floral fragrance that starts with the pep of thirst quenching water and finishes warm and cozy. Perfect summer wear but also excellent for our mild winter here in Sydney. It’s reminding me of what we look forward to in a couple of months time.

Hi Portia! This could almost be the cool green scent I want as I boiled in our worrying UK heatwave – apart from my fear of the aquatic, that is. My most adored ivy perfume was the sadly departed Annick Goutal Eau de Camille, which someone described as feeling like being slapped in the face by rain-drenched ivy leaves and honeysuckle fronds.

Eau de Camille is beautiful. Whoever described it thus is pretty good at analogies.
You might need to embrace the aquatic, it seems to be back. Less intense and in your face than the 1990s, now it’s a side note.

Like Jillie, this does seem to have an interesting greeness to it. Nice to have a white floral that has that cooling facet rather than a sickly
sweetness.
Why do I get the feeling you know exactly what it’s like to join the kids running through the sprinklers? 🙂

AHA! You have almost caught me out. The sprinkler was our favourite as kids and sometimes Mum would be so hot she’d run through it a few times with us. It was even more fun when Mum did it because she’d make funny squealing noises, it really was cold.
Oh yes, there’s very little of the Fracas or Songes about Gucci Bloom Acqua di Fiore.

Not at the moment, I’m not !!!! Been in Debenhams for a spritz and they didn’t have it on display and no sales people in sight to ask. All that happened to me was, I got soaked wet through in torrential rain.I had to change all my clothes when I got home…. Not a happy perfume person X

I haven’t tried this one, but just might later this year since my Bulgari Mon Jasmin Noir is soon empty. I haven’t got a lot of floral perfumes and usually like florals with green notes added.
Are the Gucci Flora scents discontinued? I rather liked the magnolia one, if I remember correctly.

I’m not sure about the Flora scents. There’s a new yellow bottle for the original one. It looks so fun I almost bought it for the bottle alone but reason prevailed.
I liked Mon Jasmine Noir a lot when it came out, thanks for the reminder. I might go find some.
